This 4- Day Tangier to desert, Marrakech is the perfect itinerary for travelers who want to maximize their time and discover the diverse beauty of Morocco in a short period. Starting from the northern gate of Tangier, your journey crosses the scenic Rif Mountains into the “Blue Pearl” of Chefchaouen. You will delve into the medieval history of Fes, traverse the Middle Atlas forests home to Barbary macaques, and experience the breathtaking magic of the Sahara Desert. The adventure concludes by exploring dramatic gorges and UNESCO World Heritage kasbahs before crossing the High Atlas Mountains to reach the vibrant city of Marrakech.
Your 4- Day Tangier to desert, Marrakech begins with a pickup from your hotel, airport, or port in Tangier. We travel through the Rif Mountains to reach Chefchaouen, where you have free time to explore its iconic blue alleys and Ras El Ma spring. After lunch in the vibrant Plaza Uta el-Hammam, we continue to Fes for an overnight stay in a traditional riad.
After breakfast, we head south through the Middle Atlas, stopping in Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland”. We visit the cedar forest near Azrou to see Barbary apes before driving through the lush palm groves of the Ziz Valley. In the afternoon, we reach Merzouga and switch to camels for a trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes to witness a magical sunset. Dinner and overnight are at a Saharan desert camp with traditional Berber music.
Wake early for a spectacular desert sunrise before returning to Merzouga by camel or 4×4. We visit the traditional weekly market in Rissani and continue to the dramatic Todra Gorges, where you can walk through the massive canyon. The day ends in the Dades Valley, famous for its unique rock formations, for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Dades Valley – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
On the final day, we travel through the Valley of the Roses and Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa”. We explore the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a historic fortified village. Finally, we cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m) and arrive in Marrakech by evening.
